About Us

Townsville General Practice Network (TGPN) is local not for profit organisation that has been established since 1994. TGPN is responsible for working with general practices and other health service providers within the Townsville community to provide the local infrastructure, education, and assistance, required to achieve the objectives of our national body Australian General Practice Network (AGPN)

AGPN aims to promote the health and wellbeing of Australians through general practice networks by:

• Strengthening the effectiveness and vitality of the general practice sector through support to member divisions and member State Based Organisations (SBOs) and advocacy and representation of member divisions and member SBOs to the Federal Government, to other national organisations and to the Australian public.
• Contributing to the development of national health policy in collaboration with member general practice networks and SBOs
• Promoting cooperation and communication with other national organisations in Australia with objects similar to these objects of AGPN
• Providing national leadership in health system development

TGPN Objects

• The objects for which the Company is established are to promote the health and well-being of people in the Region:

• facilitating improved liaison between general practitioners and other areas of the health care system;

• ensuring the effective integration of general practice with other elements of the health care system;

• enabling general practitioners to contribute to health planning at the local level;

• providing better access to available and appropriate general practitioner services for patients and reducing inappropriate duplication of services;

• meeting the special (and localised) health needs of groups (such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and those with non-English speaking backgrounds) or people with chronic conditions, particularly where these needs are not adequately addressed by the current health system;

• facilitating the advancement of general practice;

• enhancing educational and professional development opportunities for general practitioners, medical undergraduates, and allied health practitioners;

• facilitating increased general practitioner focus on illness prevention, health promotion activities and research; and

• improving the efficiency and effectiveness of health services in the Region.
