About Us

Since its establishment in 1994, the Townsville General Practice Network (formerly Townsville Division of General Practice) has been working to support, enhance, and develop the activity of Townsville General Practitioners in delivering comprehensive, accessible, quality health services to the population of Townsville.

In 2006 TGPN gained accreditation to the ISO9001:2000 standard, and has continued to maintain its certification since. More details are available on our Accreditation page, or the ISO logo at the foot of any page will also take you there

Our Strategic Plan identifies the key issues to be addressed by our organisation over the next three years. We have developed a range of programs with longer term outcome goals, and milestones along the way to ensure that the programs stay on track.

Each of our programs has set targets which relate to communication and networking with stakeholders (such as area health services and other providers), the development of protocols for care and referrals, and the provision of education and training opportunities for GPs.

These milestones are referred to as process measure or performance indicators. Based on the available literature and the experience of other Divisions, they have been selected as necessary precursors to longer term, sustainable improvements in clinical activity and case management, and subsequently community health outcomes. The Division is committed to:

• Enhancing best management practices and clinical excellence within general practice.
• Effective planning, implementation, and evaluation processes of health programs at an outcomes level.
• Providing timely, relevant, and integrated services to GPs.
• Enhancing equity of access to health services to all in the community.
• Providing professional support to GPs members and staff within the Division.
• Advocating the freedom of doctors to make decisions in the best interests of their patients and encouraging them to share responsibility for their own health.
