Bluewater Medical Practice

Background & History:

Bluewater Medical Practice is located 25 kilometres north of Townsville on the Bruce Highway heading towards Cairns and is in a semi-rural location. The practice mainly services those beachside suburbs of Thuringowa, a fast-growing of outer suburb and also attracts patients over a very large area with some travelling over 100 kilometres to attend. The practice offers a wide range of services such as acupuncture, massage, counselling and small surgical procedures. It also has two specialists who consult on a regular basis. The surgery is very modern and employs a caring and friendly staff. A Pharmacy and Pathology facilities are attached to the surgery and provide a full range of services. We are AGPAL Accredited.

Brief Resumé: Graduated from Medical School in Czech Republic in 1983. He received his Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Geelong Hospital in 1993. He is a fellow of the Australian College of General Practitioners and is a Supervisor of education for GP registrars.

Areas of Interest: Acupuncture, back pain, neck pain and skin surgery for skin cancers.

Dr. Prashanta Mitra has consulted as a General Practitioner at Bluewater Medical Practice for the last two years; however he has had vast experience in general surgery for the last 28 years working in many overseas countries as well as for Qld Health as a Staff Specialist Surgeon

Dr. Mitra regularly performs procedures such as Vasectomies, Carpel tunnel release, Circumcisions and Hernia Repairs. He also performs cancer surgeries on nose and ears with complex grafts and flaps all under local anaesthesia
