headspace Townsville

Overview

headspace Townsville is a health service for youth aged between 12 and 25 years of age. A range of services are offered from the headspace site - physical and mental health care with a focus on early intervention, group sessions (therapeutic and social recovery groups) and Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Services (ATODS).

All client services offered by headspace Townsville are at no cost to the client. headspace is about  making sure that young people in Townsville and surrounding areas have the best support, access, information and services for their health and wellbeing.

headspace aims to increase the knowledge and skills of professionals who work closely with young people in our community. Our Service Provider Education and Training (SPET_ programs cover a wide variety of topics relevant to those in general practice, allied health and community service sectors. These programs are offered at reduced rates to professionals to ensure the most up to date and evidence based education is offered to the professional sector who work with our youth.

The headspace services that are available at no cost include:

• GPs
• Psychologists
• Psychiatrists
• Alcohol and other drug Specialists
• Social Workers
• Mental health Nurses and Social Recovery Groups (e.g. art workshops, writing workshops, and health education sessions)

Objectives

The objectives of headspace are to provide:

• A confidential early intervention service based on proven evidence based therapeutic interventions
• Integrated and co-ordinated health, social recovery, and vocational services that meet the needs of young people, in a youth friendly environment through a range of partnerships.
• Increased community mental health literacy and facilitate help seeking
• A skilled workforce that have specific training to address youth health and social inclusion issues.
