Kirwan Family Practice

Background & History:

This is a newly established clinic with state of the art equipment and furnishings. While Family Medicine is our core business, we have a strong interest in preventative health and women’s health. We are a family-orientated practice for both patients and staff. We offer flexible employment for Doctors with child rearing responsibilities and welcome their children at our worksite.

Practice Aims & Philosophy:

Our aim is to establish a practice, which encourages holistic care of patients by doctors and other staff and in turn encourages doctors and staff to have a holistic view of their own life in terms of work, family and personal time.

Home Visits: Home visits are available to regular patients who live in the local area.

Practice Consultation Fees:

Kirwan Family Practice is not a bulk billing facility. The AMA fee structure influences our fees for both adults and children, however a discount is available for all concession cardholders. Bulk billing is at the discression of each Doctor.

Layout of practice:

4 consultation rooms, 2 treatment rooms, Allied Health Room, Solarscan room, large waiting area, reception area, patient toilet, kitchen/Staff Room.

Communities the practice services:

We serve a varied and wide range of patients from both Townsville and Thuringowa as well as outlying areas including Julia Creek, Charters Towers, Burdekin and various mine sites.

Brief Resumé: Previously worked in remote practice in Central Queensland, Bathurst Island, NT and in Urban Practice in Melbourne.

• Dr Martin Doris

Brief Resumé: Studied Medicine at Queens University Belfast, Ireland, completed his GP training and worked for 2 years in Ireland before emigrating to Australia in 1998, worked for a year in Townsville as a locum and moved to Julia Creek where he took up a position in Queensland Health as Medical Superintendent of Julia Creek Hospital with Right to Private Practice, worked for 5 years then moved to Kirwan Family Practice.

• Dr Stacey Waugh

Brief Resumé: Dr Stacey Waugh did her internship at The Townsville Hospital and has been practicing in the Townsville district for the past 14 years. Her interests include mental health and paediatrics.

• Christine Moodie

  Brief Resumé: Chris was trained in New Zealand and moved to Australia in 2002. Where she worked in Kalgoorlie in Occupational health. She then moved to Townsville in 2004 with experience in community health, occupational health and hospital services.
