Nautilus Health — from the inside out

Background & History:

Nautilus Health is located in North Ward, within 200 metres from Townville’s relaxed and tropical Strand. The practice provides complete care for families and we aim for our patients to enjoy total health and well being throughout life.

Doctor Ray Mullen and Jennifer Mullen are from Western Australia where they completed undergraduate qualifications before moving to Townsville in 1987. They owned and operated a large practice in Townsville for 14 years before making the transition to this smaller family practice offering the best of conventional medicine with preventative opportunities for health and well being.

Dr Mullen has a fellowship in general practice and post graduate qualifications in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Acupuncture and Nutritional medicine. Jennifer has postgraduate qualifications in teaching and medical practice management. She is a an AGPAL surveyor, Certified Rubenfeld Synergist and is teaching the current 4 year Certification program for Rubenfeld Synergy Method in the United States.

On site facilities and assessment tools used for screening and preventative care include:

• Weight, height and nutritional assessment for newborns, children and adults
• Physical examination including breast, prostate, pap smear and onsite pathology collection.
• Electrocardiography (E.C.G.) and spirometry.
• A computerised reminder system for health interventions such as pap smears, immunisations and skin checkups.

Brief Resume:

Dr. Mullen is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and he has a Diploma of Obstetrics and gynaecology. He is an RACGP and HIC accredited medical acupuncturist and has practiced since 1985. He has completed an intensive training regimen with the Australian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (ACNEM) in 1999 and participates in ongoing workshops in nutritional medicine and family counselling.

Areas of Interest:

Family medicine, minor surgery, occupational health, counselling, nutritional medicine and medical acupuncture.

Brief Resume:

After completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science Jennifer went on to study nursing for three years and is also a qualified teacher. She has a diploma in practice Management from the University of New England. In 1996 she undertook a four-year training in a form of somatic psychotherapy known as Rubenfeld Synergy Method and is a certified Rubenfeld Synergist. She has undertaken studies in other therapeutic modalities and is on the teacher staff of the current 4 year training in Rubenfeld Synergy Method.

Areas of Interest:

Individual counselling, chronic pain and fatigue, recovery from physical and emotional trauma, grief, sexual abuse, anxiety, personal and spiritual growth, relationship counselling.
