Dr Alan Wallace graduated from University of Queensland in 1976. He worked for four years at Royal Brisbane and Vancouver General Hospitals prior to training to be a general practitioner. He returned from Canada to practice medicine in Longreach in 1982. He was the Foundation Chairman of the Faculty of Rural Medicine within the RACGP and is passionate about the provision of good health care to all Australians. In 1994, he left Longreach to work as a Senior Lecturer in General Practice at the University of Queensland, and is the original medical director in the Rural Health Training Unit set up in Townsville. From there, he joined Northside in 1997. He has four children and is heavily involved in rowing, both as a participant and coaching school aged children. Medically, he has a special affinity for rural people, corporate work, minor surgery, child, adolescent, and male health. Dr Brennan O’Dempsey graduated from University of Queensland in 1984. He has worked in various locations - Central West Queensland, Airlie Beach, Mt Isa, and now Townsville. He possesses a Diploma of Dermatology, a certificate of Sports Medicine, and a Diploma of Obstetrics. He is qualified to perform Aviation, Corporate, Commercial and Recreational Dive Medicals, along with Work cover Assessments. He is also an accredited examiner for the American Board of Independent Examines. His current studies will gain him a Masters of Aviation Health. Medically, he enjoys all areas of medicine especially the assessment of skin lesions. He has a wife, three children, 2 dogs and is an avid sailor. Dr Barbara Jones, a local girl, graduated from the University of Queensland in 1972. She has worked in general practice in Townsville, Brisbane, Geelong, Melbourne, the UK and Canada. She also has extensive experience in medical education and is currently the Director of Vocational Training for general practice in Northern Queensland. She is employed as an Associate Professor at James Cook University and continues to work part time in general practice. She has served on a number of RACGP committees and governmental advisory committees, particularly in the areas of women’s health and preventative medicine. Her other interest is travel medicine. Dr Maree Poggio grew up in Ingham and graduated from the University of Queensland. She returned to the North to settle in Townsville. She has 4 children. Her medical interests are in all areas with a special interest in women’s and child health. Dr Nichola O’Reilly graduated from the University of Queensland. She has 3 young children and shares her work between Northside and TAIHS. Her medical interests are preventative care, diabetes, asthma and women’s health.
