Townsville General Practice Network

Practice visits and case studies now available.

Contact Robin Warren for information.

The National Prescribing Service (NPS) is a non-profit organization independent of government and the pharmaceutical industry. The NPS provides education and information about Quality Use of Medicines to GPs, specialists, pharmacists and consumers.

Practice visits are an important part of the Division's NPS activities. A Facilitator is available to visit you in your practice to discuss how current evidence on specific therapeutic topics translates into quality prescribing for patients.

Group visits (between 3 – 8) are also available where a case study format would be used for discussion. Case studies are also available for use in Small Group Learning.

The NPS also provides clinical audits and written case studies for GPs.

NPS activities are free and may count towards qualification for payment under the Quality Prescribing Initiative (QPI) of the Practice Incentives Program (PIP).

TAIS (Therapeutic Advice and Information Service) is a national drug and therapeutics phone-in information service primarily targeted at community-based health professionals. A consortium of six expert drug information centres operates the service on behalf of the NPS.

Phone 1300 138 677 Monday to Friday 9 am – 7 pm (EST) for independent information on medicines.

Medicines Line is a source of independent medicines information for consumers. Call 1300 888 763 Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm (EST)

Does the lack of information about new medicines frustrate you? Ever wondered why some medicines on the PBS have restrictions which limit the types of patients for whom they can be prescribed? Does the lack of information about new medicines frustrate you? Ever wondered why some medicines on the PBS have restrictions which limit the types of patients for whom they can be prescribed?

Introducing RADAR — the Rational Assessment of Drugs And Research a new online service from NPS (National Prescribing Service). RADAR will provide information about new medicines and changes to PBS listings that are important to GPs, pharmacists and other health professionals involved in primary care management of patients. Additionally, when new clinical research is published that will strongly influence how your patients' health is managed, RADAR will offer commentaries on what that research means to you and your patients.

To receive your free regular e-mail updates simply and efficiently register your details at www.npsradar.org.au.
