Thuringowa Medical Centre

Background & History:

Dr Malpas established the practice in July 1985. Since July 1985 there have been many changes, with rapid growth of the surgery, and major refurbishments in 1992 and 1997. We have been a training clinic for General Practitioners and have seen many fine doctors pass through the clinic during their training.

Most of our staff have been with us for at least 5 years, which helps us to get to know our patients better and creates and atmosphere of warmth and friendliness. All staff members receive regular ongoing training in practice, nursing and reception procedures.

Most recently we have seen medical students from both the University of Queensland and James Cook University Medical Schools get hands on experience in medical practice. This has been a rewarding experience for students, doctors, staff, and patients

In 1999 the surgery was one of the first in the Townsville/ Thuringowa region to receive accreditation by AGPAL (Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited) This process ensures that we provide the best of facilities, staff, medical record keeping, and sterilisation procedures as is expected of a modern Australian General Practice.
